ZONE CONFERENCE-ASHBURN,CENTREVILLE, MCLEAN, OAKTON, & POTOMAC

On Mon., June 14, We had a zone conference for 5 zones together: the Ashburn, Centreville, McLean, Oakton, and Potomac zones. This is the first of two conferences at which Elder Hinckley will be speaking.
We started the day with a pre-conference meeting for the Assistants and Zone leaders. It was a small, intimate meeting and he had the 12 of them sit in a circle and he got really close and then he talked to them about our mission. He had them tell him what we in the DC south mission do: They said things like: we are purpose driven, we're a Preach My Gospel Mission, we set goals, we invite everyone, we love the people, we rescue souls, we teach by the spirit, we baptize, we teach by the spirit, and we teach the Doctrine of Christ. He focused on the we Baptize statement. That is what he was waiting to hear. Then he asked them what needs improvement. They came up with areas for improvement and he gave ideas to help. It was really a great meeting. After the leadership meeting, we had the 5-zone conference.
This meeting began with every missionary getting the opportunity to shake Elder and Sis. Hinckleys' hands. He had 3 missionaries give talks (everyone had prepared one), then had a set of missionaries give the second lesson in 15 minutes. He had Pres and I each speak. I spoke about how important the area books are and compared them to a jewel or gold mine that is left untaped. President always gives great talks. He spoke about what is expected of missionaries now, using comparisons of the law of Moses and the higher law of Jesus.
Sis. Murray sang a beautiful song. Then Sis. Hinckley spoke followed by Elder Hinckley who gave wonderful advice and training for about 2 1/2 hours. Our missionaries who will be leaving at the next transfer bore their testimonies. This included: Elders Giraud-Carrier, Freeland, Jeppesen, Peterson, Johnson, Perkins, Beal, Lee and Fukui.
We then had lunch in the gym. Following the lunch, most of the missionaries left and the zone leaders and Assistants had interviews with Elder Hinckley. These included: Elders Simmons and Brogan from Potomac, Elders Sackett and Giraud-Carrier from McLean, Elders Johnson and Cuevas from Oakton, Elders Fukui and Wallace from Ashburn, and Lee and Caresia from Centreville, then Ellders Williams and Bell-our Assistants.
