Mount Vernon
Saturday Morning we took a couple of hours and took our office elders, Elder Brunstad and Elder Robbins and went to Mt. Vernon. We were going to a baptism and then to visit the Mount Vernon homestead. Mount Vernon is an incredibly beautiful plantation. It was home to President George Washington and his family. For 45 years he worked to improve the appearance of the mansion, all the outbuildings the gardens and grounds. He loved every part of it and was involved in designing, decorating, and inventing. We saw a movie about his life in the museum before we took the tour and was so touched as they recounted all that he accomplishes in his life. He truly was saved by the Lord many times so he could help found this country. The pictures include: a tree that was one of many planted by Washington, the outbuildings, and the mansion itself. It sits on a hill overlooking the Patomac River. Washington wrote that, "No estate in United America is more pleasantly situated than this.." It is obvious how much he loved his home and was gone much of the time as he served his country, but always returned to his beloved plantation.
