Our mission was given a wonderful opportunity this year. We got to perform at the Temple Visitor Center during the Festival of Lights. This lasts for about 30 days from Dec 1 to Jan 1. We were assigned the last night the lst of January 2010. Every night during the festival different performers and groups of performers come and put on 2 programs each night. There were performers like Jenny Oaks Baker on violin, and the Washington DC Mormon Choir. We felt very privileged to be included. Our Elders and Sisters did not have a lot of opportunity to get together and practice, but still did fabulous. We have a lot of incredibly talented missionaries and drew from their talents for our program. The performance hall at the center holds about 530 people and we had shows at 7:00 and at 8:00. I was a little worried that we might not get much of an audience. The whole thing ended up perfect. The performer did superb, we had sell out crowds-at 7:00 there were 550 and at 8:00 there were 683 with standing room along the walls and back. So we were really thrilled.
My son-in-law who has done professional entertaining was our MC and was masterful. Our program included 7 numbers.
1st number--BREATHE OF HEAVEN (with the video of the Nativity showing on the screen behind them) sung by: Sisters Downey, Knutsen, Larson, Gwynn, and Reid. Very lovely.
2nd number--HOW CAN I BE (an island song) with Elder Ika on the Ukelele and sung by: Elders Ika, Brown, Knechtel, Ockler, Wilkinson, and Wilkey. This number had that wonderful island sound and was done very well.
3rd number--MOZARTS' HORN CONCERTO #3 IN Db MAJOY by Elder Egan on the French horn.(Elder Egan has a full ride french horn scholarship to University of Utah. He was accompanied by Bro. Mike Coleman on the piano.
4th number--COME THOU FONT sung by :
Elders Sackett, McGill, Johnson, Egan, Newton Wilkes, Robbins & Taylor Sinquefield. This was done acapella in 4 part harmony and was gorgeous.
5th number--GESU BAMBINO performed by; Sister Ferry on Cello (a graduate from Univ. of Texas Austin in cello performance), and Sister Laura Hui on violin (Sis. of Sis Ferry who lives in Maryland- and graduated in violin performance from Univ. of Maryland College Park. They were accompanied by Pres. Ward on the piano.
6th number--THE PRAYER sung by ELDER SACKETT (member of Vocal Point at BYU) and Sis. Murray (performed a year at Disneyland before mission.
7th number--OH, HOLY NIGHT sung by Taylor Sinquefield (son-in-law) Gondolier at Venetian Hotel Las Vegas and many semi pro. performances.
We arrived at the center at 4:00 in the afternoon and asked the performers to be there by 5:00 to start practicing and have a run through. It was a fun afternoon and evening and I was really proud of all of them. We had many missionaries bring investigators and new converts. What a great experience for those who performed. I will be adding the video to this as soon as I can.

Many thanks for letting us parents know about this wonderful performance, and extra thanks to the post to youtube...it was so fun to see my son, Elder Wilkes!
