ROOSEVELT ISLAND

One of the prettiest drives into Washington DC is on the George Washington Memorial Parkway. As we were driving there we noticed a parking lot off to the side and a bridge to an island. We pulled in and were delighted to find the Roosevelt Island. It is a small island in the Potomac River. It has walking and jogging paths, that were full of people exercising. As you walk toward the center of the island, you come to a beautiful large circle of trees with a huge monument to Roosevelt on one side. There are a couple of large pools and fountains that are not working. Maybe in the summer they run them. Roosevelt was a great proponent of the outdoors and the environment and this is a beautiful tribute to him.
