THE DC BEACON--MONTHLY NEWSLETTER- JULY 2010

Each month we put together a newsletter for the mission. It is called the washington dc Beacon. It is filled with stories, miracles and articles from each of the office staff, the Car Czar, the Finance Man, The receptionists, The office elders, and the Assistants, and Pres, and I. I though it might be fun for me to put some of these articles into the blog. Following are 4 MAGNIFICENT MISSIONARY MIRACLES.

“What the Lord Wants for Me”

“We were waiting in the church for an appointment with a less-active, but she canceled on us in the last minute. We were turning off the lights when a guy knocked on the door of the church and we opened it for him because we thought that he was a young man wanting to play some basketball, but when he entered, he asked us, “Where are the headquarters of the church because I want to be baptized?” We thought it was a joke, but it was real! He wanted to be baptized because he saw the example of his Mormon friends in his high school and he wanted the same blessings as they had. His family has a lot of problems, and he hates that. He told us that maybe we needed to wait until he is 18 because he is 16 and his parents are Methodist, but when he was passing by the church, he saw the building, ran to it, and knocked because he felt that it was the thing that the Lord wanted for him.”

“The Essential Nature of Prayer”

“Yesterday we set one of our investigators on date. We brought him to the Mission Home Fireside on Sunday. After the fireside we committed him to pray about when he should be baptized. When we met with him again he told us that he had not prayed yet. We showed our disappointment. He has told us that he wants to be baptized but has not set a date. Then we asked him to get on his knees and ask God when he should be baptized. We informed him of the date that had stood out to us and asked him to ask God about that date. The Spirit was strong as we all knelt and listened to a humble plea to know God's will. My companion and I have never prayed harder than we did as we listened to his prayer. It was beautiful! His prayer lasted about 7 minutes - 5 minutes of which were silent as he sought the confirmation of the spirit. At one point in the prayer, the Spirit testified to us that he had gotten his answer. No sooner had we felt that feeling then he ended his prayer and announced that he would be baptized on the 28th of August.”

“Seek and Ye Shall Find”

“We have an investigator who has gone to church three times now, but we had never taught him a lesson before. He had always been busy and so finally we set up a time to go to the church and teach him with Bishop. While we were sitting in the lesson, making small talk about how he felt about the church, he changed the subject and asked, "What do I need to do to be baptized?" After we taught him about what he needs to do, he says "Ok, I want to be baptized on the 27th in two weeks. It is my birthday, so I think that'll be a good day to do it!" It was amazing!! One thing I have started to realize during my mission is that it is not anything we do as missionaries to bring people to the waters of baptism; it is our Heavenly Father who gives us His children after we do everything we can and are obedient.”

“Treasure Up My Word...”

“I'd been thinking a lot about our recent convert and thinking that it was important to get her started on reading from the beginning of the Book of Mormon. And not but 20 minutes later, she texted me and said she felt like she needed to learn something! So I told her to take a few minutes and pray, then to just open her scriptures and start reading. She texted us later that night and said she'd done just that and had opened to Alma 15. She said verses 5-8 really stuck out to her. And that she felt like that was exactly what Heavenly Father wanted her to know! It helped her to know that her two children - who have many medical issues - would be okay as well.’
