FORT WASHINGTON-THE CAPITAL'S GUARDIAN

On our way to a baptism in Mt. Vernon we were driving on the George Washington Memorial Parkway. This beautiful stretch of road runs along the Potomac River on the Virginia side heading into DC. We stopped at this look out to see the fort across the river. It is Fort Washington, which is the oldest existing fortification built for the defense of the capital. George Washington selected this location in 1794. (we hope to be able to drive around and tour it)
